This Spring, Plant Seeds of Renewal and Resilience in Honduras to

Plant seeds in the next generation

Earlier this year, our team worked with a school full of eager students in Intibucá, Honduras, to plant an orchard in their school garden.

Alongside their teachers and SHI team members, the children filled 35 holes with saplings—including avocados and mandarins.

Over the years, this orchard will be lovingly tended by school children in rural Intibuca, Honduras. One day, it will bear fruit that will nourish both them and their families.

"What we are planting today is not just trees. What we are planting today is learning, awareness, and a future for our students and our community.” Jorge Alberto García, Director of the Centro Básico Unión Centroamericana primary school

…Grow Roots of Resilience for Farmers like Héctor

Héctor Fermín Domínguez once faced a choice familiar to too many young Hondurans: leave home or struggle.

Then he joined RAOS, a coffee growers' cooperative and SHI partner, and began training with SHI as a farmer promoter — a trusted community liaison providing locally rooted technical assistance on environmentally responsible farming.

Everything changed. For the first time in a long time, Héctor saw a future in Honduras.

He calls our work with RAOS and partner farmers a canasta llena de opciones — a basket full of options — opening doors for young people to grow and thrive in their own communities.

When SHI plants seeds of environmental awareness with intergenerational impact…

And partners with local farmers to renew a sense of opportunity and invest in local resilience…

We create a broader ecosystem where farming communities thrive while enhancing the natural resources we all depend on.

And you can join us.

This Spring, plant seeds of renewal and resilience in Honduras to:

  • train the next generation of farmer leaders through environmental education for schoolchildren in rural Honduras

  • strengthen the bridge between formal education and the agroecological knowledge that farming families already carry.

  • grow individual, community, and environmental resilience by supporting a family farmer’s transition to regenerative agriculture
