Million Farm Transformation_1-Black.png

We AIM To…

  • transform 1 million farms,

  • plant 1 billion trees,

  • sequester 18 million tons of carbon dioxide,

  • regenerate 8 million acres of land, and

  • achieve food security for 5 million people.

SHI has partnered with farming families in Central America for over 28 years in a variety of climates, geographies, and cultures.

If the world’s 500 million family farmers adopted regenerative agriculture…

they could draw down 6 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year.

That’s nearly 20 percent of global annual emissions or the equivalent of shutting down every coal-fired power plant in the world.

  • Expansion of Core Program: Increase SHI’s capacity for providing direct technical assistance to farming families.

  • Replication through Partners: Replicate the core, essential elements of our program model with partnerships that can access almost a billion dollars in funding through government, collaborations, and networks. Possible partners include government agencies, nonprofits, universities, and businesses.

  • Innovation: Test and adopt innovations in our methodology to significantly lower or offset the cost of program delivery. Examples include farmer mentorship programs and earned income ventures.

BEHIND EVERY TRANSFORMATION IS A FAMILY FARMER

Since 1997, Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) has partnered long-term with low-income family farmer communities in Central America—many of whom are women and Indigenous—to implement regenerative agriculture practices that restore the environment and improve food security.
