Clinton Global Initiative’s 2024 Meeting

Sustainable Harvest International’s (SHI) Founder + Director of Strategic Growth, Florence (Flo) Reed spoke at one of the Clinton Global Initiative’s (CGI) Spotlight Sessions, “Preserving Our Planet through Sustainable Land Management.”

She highlighted our nearly 30 years of regenerative agriculture efforts. She also discussed our newly launched TREE program, which will incentivize farmers to contribute to sustainable and organic markets, and our documentary, “Roots of Renewal,” along with their relevance to our Commitment to Action in CGI’s Climate Resilience category.

Our Commitment to Action:
Capture 128,000 Tons of CO2
on 1,200 Honduran Farms

what

As part one of CGI’s “Commitment Makers,” SHI will carry out a 3-year program to:

• enable 1,200 smallscale farmers to regenerate over 12,800 acres of degraded land,

• plant 1 million trees, and

• increase incomes and food security for 8,000 people.

WHY

Collectively, smallholder farmers hold the power to significantly impact the global climate.

If all 500 million smallholder farms transition to regenerative practices,

they could sequester 8 gigatons of CO2 per year.

That equals 53% of the total change needed from emission reductions and sequestration, according to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals).

how

We are partnering with four local organizations in Honduras to ensure TREE’s success. The program is funded by foundations, generous individuals, and small businesses.
