Sustainable Harvest International Founder Florence Reed Transitions to Strategic Advisory Role After 28 Years

Washington, D.C., United States – After 28 remarkable years of visionary leadership, Florence “Flo” Reed, founder of Sustainable Harvest International (SHI), will step down from her full-time role this coming January to pursue a new venture. Reed will remain closely connected to SHI as she transitions into a strategic advisory role, continuing to support the mission she founded in 1997.

Reed founded SHI with the vision of addressing environmental degradation, food insecurity, and rural poverty through sustainable farming. Since its inception, SHI has provided localized, multi-year technical assistance to more than 4,000 small-scale farmers, helping restore degraded lands, feed families, and build resilient livelihoods through regenerative agriculture.

Flo Reed left us with an honorable and transformative vision—one that has touched thousands of lives. Her unwavering dedication to building a just and sustainable world is a legacy I am proud to carry forward.

I joined SHI because I strongly believe in its mission and saw an opportunity to grow its impact. One key step forward has been building team capacity and focusing our efforts on the programs that deliver the greatest results. With new team members and an improved sustainable farming model, SHI is well-positioned and deeply committed to supporting more rural communities.

We are incredibly grateful to our supporters and partners who continue to stand with us in this transformative work.
