We believe in opting for sustainable practices that nourish communities and the Earth. One powerful tool SHI farmers use to improve food production is an organic fertilizer called bokashi.

SHI Graduates Strengthen Families and ...

When farmers first join SHI’s program, they commit to a multi-year, hands-on learning experience that is guided by SHI Field Trainers and rooted in sustainable agriculture. Our program takes time because we believe in long-term results. When farming families have successfully completed the program, they're invited to take part in a community graduation ceremony.

An Organic Gardening Guide, By Family Farmers

SHI farmers use organic practices daily. The practices they share in this guide are rooted in a deep respect for the land. We hope they inspire you to change your own consumption habits—or go further still and help transform your local food system. Like SHI’s dedicated farmers, you too can be an agent of change.

From Farms to Flourishing Businesses

Small-scale family farmers often face challenges such as limited access to capital, labor, or land, yet they can still build thriving businesses. Family farmers can develop flourishing businesses while supporting local food systems, food sovereignty, and sustainability. At Sustainable Harvest International (SHI), we train farmers in the skills they need to build sustainable livelihoods.
