2015 Annual Report
(JULY 1, 2014 - JUNE 30, 2015)
IN CENTRAL AMERICA
TO RESTORE FORESTS
We are an organization made up of individuals--from the individual farmers and families who partner with us in Central America, to the dedicated staff members who sweat alongside them in the fields, to our staff here in the United States, and to each one of you.
This year, we're grateful to each of you for helping us be the best organization we can be. You've shown us the power that each one of us has, and it's because of you that we’ve been so successful.
As you’ll see in the infographic below, most of our funding comes from individuals. We're proud to be a grassroots organization made up of passionate individuals (like you!).
Though we depend on individuals, it's the collective spirit that binds us all together and makes positive change possible.
OUR FIVE AREAS OF IMPACT IN FY15
With your support, we've partnered with more than 2,543 families since we started our work in 1997! 192 families graduated from our program in FY15. These families are now fully equipped not only to sustain their own families and the ecosystems around them, but also to train their neighbors on the skills and techniques they honed while working with us.

In FY15, 84 acres were converted from conventional agricultural methods to sustainable, organic methods. The farmers who work with us increased biodiversity on their farms by planting more than 46 tree species and over 61 food crops across the board.

You helped us to have greater impact on the livelihood of the farmers who partner with us. In FY15, 37 loans were facilitated and 35 new small businesses were established. The farmers who work with us generated $163,884 in new agricultural income alone, helping them to further improve their well-being and quality of life.

Not only were 74 organic vegetables gardens established in FY15, but 55 chicken coops were constructed, providing families with another steady source of protein and income. Families with vegetable gardens and chicken coops were provided with extensive training on how to manage and maintain their gardens and coops.

Your generosity helped 93,825 trees to be planted in FY15--reforesting an area equivalent to 149 acres. In addition, families constructed 90 wood-conserving stoves, preserving trees and eliminating toxic smoke from their kitchens.

We rebranded! FY15 was a big year for us--a new logo, new website, and revitalized communications efforts.
Upon close review of all the countries where we work, we decided that three (Belize, Honduras, and Panama) are ready to become subsidiaries and one (Nicaragua) was ready to become independent. The subsidiary model is new and exciting to us--it allows for comprehensive organization-wide policies and standards.
FY15 CONTRIBUTIONS + IN-KIND
(JULY 1, 2014 - JUNE 30, 2015)
62% of our income is received from individual donors, but behind each and every kind of support (whether foundations, trips, partnerships, or in-kind) is an individual. You've shown us that individuals can make a difference. Thank you for believing in us.
- 81% of our expenses supported effective programs with quality management and smooth operations
- 10% of our expenses allowed us to efficiently raise funding for our programs
- 9% of our expenses supported professional management of resources for maximum impact in all areas of operation
THE BOTTOM LINE?
EVERYTHING WE DO AS AN ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO STRENGTHEN
AND IMPROVE OUR PROGRAMS IN CENTRAL AMERICA.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR SUSTAINABLE HARVEST INTERNATIONAL?
We're glad you asked! We are...
- implementing an internship program to measure our results in each of our areas of impact (with a pilot internship program in partnership with EARTH University)
- publishing two research studies highlighting the impact of our work
- making a significant investment in vehicles for our program staff to ensure they spend as much time as they need with program participants and to ensure their safety
- developing a model for working with families after they graduate from our program
WE ARE DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED OUR WORK FOR THE FORESTS AND FAMILIES OF CENTRAL AMERICA. HUNDREDS OF GENEROUS DONATIONS HAVE LED TO THE CONTINUED SUCCESS OF OUR PROGRAMS, ENSURING A HEALTHIER FUTURE FOR PEOPLE AND THE PLANET.
SUCCESS COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT ALL OUR DONORS.
