Have you checked out our Instagram lately? If so, you may have noticed that it’s been temporarily taken over by Elliott Powell, our new Field Program Director, while he visits our programs. That means that for three weeks, we get to see what Sustainable Harvest International is up to through the eyes of our newest employee!
Seeing the world through Elliott’s eyes is a good thing (that’s part of why we hired him). Last week, he was in Panama. This week he’s in Belize. Next week, he’ll be in Honduras. During this trip, Elliott is meeting the incredible, wise, and dedicated members of the Sustainable Harvest International community—our staff and the families we work with.
From what we’re seeing so far, he’s got his eyes both on the big stuff (the challenges of traveling far on rough terrain to reach the families we work with)...
And.... I've made it to Belize! After arriving yesterday, I hit the road all the way South to the Toledo district - where the majority of our program operates. Here's a shot from the long drive out to visit one of the communities... miles and miles of dense tropical forest. I am looking forward to spending lots of time with everyone from our Sustainable Harvest International-Belize office and the families we work with. Stay tuned for more from Belize! #sustainability #environment #Belize #fromwhereistand #organicfarming #48hoursinaday
...and the little stuff (leaf cutter ants!).
He's also learning about each and every person on our staff, like Daysbeth.
Today I had the pleasure of spending time with Daysbeth, She's been a Field Trainer with Sustainable Harvest International - Panamá for the past 9 years! With her previous group of families graduating from SHI's program recently, she's been ramping up efforts in two new communities - and let me follow along to see what the process looks like in the early stages. I'm amazed at how hard she works - and the distances she hikes each day - to get families on-boarded with sustainable farming. #Panama #environment #sustainability #fromwhereistand #hiketowork #organicfarming
We hope you’ll enjoy the last week and a half of Elliott's Instagram takeover! If you like what you see, follow us, leave a comment, or share it with a friend! Thanks for letting us share our work with you!
