Outreach & Fundraising Ideas

Here are some great outreach and fundraising ideas that have been successful for past volunteers!

An SHI fundraising contra danceThrow an SHI... Party • Bike Race • Concert • Dance • Community Dinner • Rummage Sale • Fun Run • Plant Sale • Craft Fair • Car Wash • Sweatshop-Free T-shirts Sale • Bake Sale • Battle of the Bands • Raffle • Pet Show • Auction • Fair Trade Organic Coffee or Chocolate Sale • Presentation • Cooking Contest • Canoe Race • Theater Performance • Children’s Night In (Parents' Night Out) • Talent Show • Pie Eating Contest • Chess Tournament • Art Show

What is great about community events is that they bring people together and give you the opportunity to not only tell people about the work you are supporting but potentially raise funds for our programs as well!  You are welcome to give a presentation, hang posters, invite speakers or hand out brochures.  Don't be afraid to be creative and HAVE FUN.

If you need additional information, materials or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the SHI office.

If you decide to organize an event, visit our SHI Volunteer Primer page for some planning help and downloads.

Happy brainstorming!

What Can You Do In 1 Minute?

Bill McKibben, 350.org

"It's pretty clear that the agro-industrial complex is just as vulnerable and brittle as the too-big-to-fail banks. So figuring out what comes next--how to grow the food the world needs to eat  in a way that actually can last far into the future--is an essential task. SHI is on the front lines, and in the places that really matter."

~ Bill McKibben, Author, Educator, Environmentalist, and Founder of 350.org
