March 2, 2006
Dear SHI,
My name is Lucia Che. I am 34 years old. I live in the
village of Silver Creek, in the Toledo District. I am married to Pedro Che and together we have six
children. We have at present
three children attending school, two primary and one going
to high school.
March 25th of this year will make it one year
since we have join SHI in Belize. I am glad to
say that we have a fish tank, which improve our family diet
and generate small income for my
family. Visitors to the community often stop by to visit the
pond. We have fished out lot of
fish from the pond, which was sold to people that, ask in
the village. We have sold over ten
pounds of fish at BZ$2/lb.
Apart from selling the fish my husband is doing his regular
fieldwork and tends to the nursery
at home. He has some 50 coffee [Catura] plants in the
nursery, which will be transplanted in
June.
Besides these activities we [Catarina and I] are doing art
and craft work at home during our
leisure time. Catarina, my eldest daughter, 18 years, does
stone carving while I do my cuxtals
and embroidery, which usually sell good to tourist in the
village.
Thanks,
Lucia Che
