Fundraising Ideas

SHI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and Smaller World participation fees are generally tax-deductible.  Most of our Smaller World volunteers fundraise to cover most or all of their expenses. You are encouraged to raise funds by writing letters to friends and neighbors requesting support or by hosting an event in your community.

Smaller World group from UMaine OronoHere are some great fundraising ideas that have been successful for past Smaller World participants!

Throw an SHI... Party • Bike Race • Concert • Dance • Community Dinner • Rummage Sale • Fun Run • Plant Sale • Craft Fair • Car Wash • Sweatshop-Free T-shirts Sale • Bake Sale • Battle of the Bands • Raffle • Pet Show • Auction • Fair Trade Organic Coffee or Chocolate Sale • Presentation • Cooking Contest • Canoe Race • Theater Performance • Children’s Night In (Parents' Night Out) • Talent Show • Pie Eating Contest • Chess Tournament • Art Show

What is great about community events like these is that they bring people together. Group events give you the opportunity to not only raising important funding, but also to tell people about the work you are doing!  You can give a presentation, hang posters on the wall, invite speakers and hand out brochures.  Don't be afraid to be creative and HAVE FUN.

Happy brainstorming!

Don't hesitate to contact us if you need any help or if you need outreach materials like brochures, newsletters and posters for your event.

English

"My husband and I encountered Sustainable Harvest International through an Elderhostel trip in Belize, where we heard a presentation from one of the field agents, had a tour of a cacao farm where the farmer learned from SHI and saw the effect this organization has on the local community. I am very confident that it is worth supporting, with donations having impact both on quality and length of life, as well as the health of the planet."
